New Study Says DREAM Act Would Boost US Economy
According to an article in USA Today, a new study by the Center for American Progress, started by New York mayor Michael Bloomberg, examined the positive economic impacts of a DREAM Act. The study estimates that the economic benefits include adding $329 billion and 1.4 million jobs to the nation's economy over two decades. A DREAM Act would grant legal status to those individuals who were brought to the U.S. at a young age without authorization. The article includes some point and counter-point, such as on the one hand there is a concern that a DREAM Act would have the effect of taking jobs from Americans while on the other hand there is the example of Sergey Brin, who was born in the Soviet Union but co-founded Google in the U.S.
